Fungipharm is a family-owned company founded in 2019 with the mission of promoting health through mycology. Its founders are the owners of Altavilla Mushrooms, a prestigious gourmet mushroom brand that has been active in the national market for over 10 years. All four founders hold doctorates in medicine, engineering, and food sciences, and they are as passionate about the Fungi Kingdom as they are about ancestral medicine. They lead healthy lifestyles and advocate good nutritional practices.
Lion’s Mane was one of the mushrooms produced by Altavilla. The mushroom was sold in supermarkets, included in Altavilla’s edible mushroom assortment, but part of it was used for extraction, with small bottles supplied to the owners as well as some family and friends who had heard about the novelty. News of the extracts began to spread, and in 2023 the initiative received a capital investment to be better developed and turned into a formal venture, independent from Altavilla. Today, Fungipharm has its own management and cultivates Lion’s Mane separately from Altavilla. In fact, the Lion’s Mane mushrooms found in supermarkets labeled Altavilla Mushrooms are produced by Fungipharm.
Fungipharm started by selling Lion’s Mane in dehydrated form, as powder, and as homemade extracts. Like any good venture, it began in whatever way was possible, with dedication and a strong sense of purpose. Over time, the techniques improved, the product became standardized, the packaging more practical and attractive, and Fungipharm launched a website to offer its products online to the world. The extracts the company produces are made with the utmost care, following strict quality standards set by our specialist, who holds a PhD in food quality from Canada’s EMBRAPA.
Fungipharm has a 100% vertically integrated process, allowing us to monitor every stage of production and trace potential issues. It is one of the few companies in the extraction sector that masters both the agricultural side and the extraction side—both of which are high-tech. Our production greenhouses feature an automated acclimation system, ensuring continuous and standardized mushroom production year-round. The extraction process is carried out using state-of-the-art equipment and is supported by an adjacent laboratory for microbiological and physicochemical analysis of each batch produced. In the last six months, Fungipharm has scaled up production to meet both domestic and international market demands.
We celebrate every customer who comes to our door, as it honors our venture and reinforces our conviction that people are becoming increasingly aware—just like us—of the importance of mindful eating and of trying new foods from the Fungi Kingdom as a way to expand the range of substances entering our bodies and helping to maintain balance.
There is considerable expectation regarding formulations of this mushroom for the treatment of central nervous system diseases, and many studies suggest that yes, the effects experienced by people who consume it are not mere placebo. However, neither the mushroom nor its preparations can be considered a medicine – they are foods to be consumed as a source of vitamins, beta-glucans, and their well-known terpenes.
It’s a name we imagined would have a fun double meaning, with a playful pun between “farm” and “pharma.” We like to see ourselves as a farm that promotes health through the fungi we grow in our gardens.
Studies report benefits from consuming 2g of dried mushroom. This is a food that people will consume more or less depending on their taste and the benefit they perceive. Our extract and powdered mushroom bottles contain the same amount of mushroom as our competitors’ products, which is the amount people typically consume in one month. The dried mushroom packages are intended for a single recipe – enough for one person or the whole family 🙂
In mushroom production, we do not use synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, and in extract production, we do not use preservatives. For mushroom production, our team is highly trained and follows a strict hygiene protocol we established. Extraction and bottling are carried out in a laboratory certified by ANVISA and the FDA (American ANVISA). Our products are 100% natural. However, we do not yet have organic certification.

We prefer to list what we believe are our strengths and leave it to you, the consumer, to compare our products with those of our competitors. Our production is 100% vertically integrated, facilitating traceability. We control every stage of the process, from cultivation to bottling. Extraction and bottling are done in a certified laboratory. All batches undergo microbiological and quantitative analysis to ensure product quality and consistency. Our powdered mushrooms and extracts are made from the mushroom fruiting body, not the mycelium. Delivery times are short, and prices are fair given the product quality.
There are different methods for extracting compounds from plants and fungi. For example, chamomile tea is an extract obtained by infusing the plant in hot water. Olive oil is obtained by pressing the olives and separating the oil from the resulting juice. Lion’s Mane tincture is made by infusing the mushroom in a water-alcohol mixture that is then evaporated to concentrate the solution. This hydro-alcoholic solution carries water-soluble substances from Lion’s Mane (such as beta-glucans) and some terpenes, which are oily substances. Our Lion’s Mane oil is like olive oil; it contains only the oily part of the mushroom, which is rich in terpenes.
Any adverse effect from consuming a food or preparation cannot be called a side effect. Some people may be intolerant to mushrooms and experience gastrointestinal reactions. There are no reports of anyone being hospitalized due to consuming Lion’s Mane or its preparations, such as an allergic reaction similar to seafood allergy. If you consume the mushroom and feel unwell, stop consuming it for a few days and observe your body.
We are developing a Forum section where people will be able to report benefits and drawbacks of consuming the mushroom, share recipes, suggest optimal consumption times and quantities, share articles and the latest news, and much more. We usually post the latest discoveries on our Instagram. If you want to learn more and are in a hurry, you can search online using the following keywords: Hericium erinaceus, lion’s mane, neurotrophic, BDNF.
